Vintage Brevard (Special Edition)

Happy Friday Brevard !! Here's an important, albeit sorrow filled, reminder of our local take on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, 56 years ago today, on November 22, 1963. All politics aside, there's no doubt of the impact President Kennedy made on this area - the last step before man's first on the moon was from our very own soil !!

There's a few other interesting tidbits on this cover, namely talk of the dangerous conditions on the newly completed U.S. 1 (good to see we've fixed that..), and the ever contentious issue of...Jai Alai. Melbourne & Eau Gallie did eventually get their dose of one of the 60's favorite forgotten sports crazes - the facility that is currently Melbourne Greyhound Park was formerly a Jai Alai arena, or "fronton", built in 1971. The Greyhounds didn't arrive until 1990 !
